Short answer: Phoenix Crafted publishes the formulation facts we can document and labels untested claims as not proven.

Wax composition

Standard candles use a majority coconut-soy blend with beeswax as the minority component at roughly one quarter of the wax by weight. The precise ratio is proprietary. Because beeswax is animal-derived, these candles are not vegan.

Fragrance load and IFRA position

Our standard fragrance load is 10% unless a product requires a different tested formulation. Fragrance suppliers provide IFRA Certificates of Conformity, and formulas are kept within the applicable IFRA Category 12 limit. IFRA does not certify finished candles, so we do not describe any candle as β€œIFRA certified.”

Wicks

We use lead-free cotton wicks and untreated natural wooden wicks. Wooden wicks have no coating, chemical treatment, or ignition accelerant. Lead-core wicks have been prohibited in U.S. consumer candles since 2003; lead-free status is legal compliance, not a unique health claim.

Dyes and additives

No added synthetic dyes, UV inhibitors, or hardeners are used in standard candles. Natural wax variation and a slight tint from fragrance oil may remain visible.

California Proposition 65

Phoenix Crafted does not use the absence of a Proposition 65 warning as proof that a candle is non-toxic. Proposition 65 is a California warning law, not a product-safety certification. We review supplier documentation and applicable warning obligations; customers seeking a product-specific determination should contact us before purchase.

Documented burn-test protocol

  1. Record the wax batch, fragrance and load, vessel, wick material and wick size.
  2. Cure the test candle before evaluation.
  3. Trim cotton wicks to about 1/4 inch or wood wicks to about 1/8–3/16 inch.
  4. Run repeated burn sessions of no more than four hours in a draft-free area.
  5. Record ignition, flame stability, melt-pool development, visible smoke or soot, vessel temperature observations and remaining wax after each cycle.
  6. Reject or re-wick combinations that show unstable flame, persistent smoke, excessive mushrooming, unsafe vessel heat or incomplete melt-pool development.
  7. Confirm the final care and burn-time guidance against the accepted configuration.

This protocol documents workshop performance; it is not laboratory emissions testing. Independent emissions results are not proven and are not claimed.

Product-level specifications

Each candle product page renders the available wax blend, fragrance load, wick material, vessel dimensions, net weight, burn time and vegan status from product metafields. If a field is absent, the page does not invent a value.
